HERITAGE HOTEL 4th ANNUAL STAFF PARTY– 17th January 2009
Fun filled with excitement is the best way to describe the 2008 4th Annual Staff Party for the Heritage Hotel’s staff; which was held recently on 17th January 2009 at Tawau Yatch Club. Bringing the theme ‘Blue Jeans Night’, everyone dressed in casual, cool and funky style. The attendance was overwhelming as there we more that 170 guests attended the celebration; including main supporters from bankers, contractors, friends and associated staffs who have came afar from the Mataking Island where everyone contributed in some ways and all with unfailing support towards the Heritage Hotel. It was definitely a celebration to remember; especially for the Heritage staffs as for the 1st time since hotel operational in year 2005, the staffs had the chance to celebrate their event in a different environment. Overall commented it was definitely a success and an enjoyable one!
“To appreciate the staff’s commitment and hard work for past few events, this year we thought we want to sit back, relax and enjoy the evening at a seaside venue”, as Mdm Sophia Sie (Executive Director) explained during her speech. Mr David Sie, Managing Director of the DS Group also added that the venue of celebration is changed to an airy environment which also symbolized the objective to be always environmentally friendly. With this opportunity, Mr Sie also thanked all the dedicated, loyal and professional staff for their unselfish contribution towards the achievements.
During the welcome speech by the Hotel Manager, Ms Veronica Thadeus, she reminded all the staff to lift up their spirits and show strong commitment, as for year 2009, striving to higher heights is the aim. This was strengthened by Mdm Sophia Sie as she urged all Heritage staff to join efforts to strive to a higher level and excel in customer service for this challenging year of 2009. A personal acknowledgement was also conveyed by Ms Veronica towards the staffs that have been standing along her side ensuring the hotel operation is managed smoothly since the very beginning.
One of the highlight programs of the night was karaoke singing, where everyone had the chance to show off their talent; giving the best showmanship; pouring their hearts out; performing songs from the oldies to modern songs to presenting English songs to local Kadazandusun songs. Even Mr & Mrs David Sie ensured that they do not miss out in presenting their own selection of songs. Everyone had a blast in joining the singing and dancing altogether.
There were several awards and prizes presented during the celebration which includes award for Best Dance Performance, with their unique, classic modern moves, no doubts the Front Office Department gained victory. As for the Outstanding Attendance Award (Zero Lateness), it went to Juliansa Bin Ardiansa of Maintenance Department. While Helmi Saimin & Rajimah Jamaluddin both from Housekeeping Department was chosen as Mr/Ms Heritage 2009 for the best dressed of the night.
The climax awards of the night, Best Staff Award 2008 went to Randolph L Tungcap, Supervisor of Front Office Department, awarded for his loyalty and work commitment and Best Department Award 2008, awarded to Maintenance Department for their continues effort to improve and achieve higher level. As for the grand lucky draws, guests had the chance for a 2D/1N stay at Heritage Hotel Suite Room and also a 2D/1N package trip to Mataking Island for 2 pax. Being their celebration, luck went to the hotel staffs for winning both lucky draws.

HERITAGE HOTEL ANNUAL STAFF PARTY
It was a glamorous celebration for the staffs and management of Heritage Hotel when they recently had their 3rd Annual Staff Dinner Celebration on 2nd February 2008. With the remarkable decorations and bringing the theme ‘Black Is Beautiful’ everyone was wearing dashing & elegant black wear. There we more that 150 guests who included the main supporters as well as top management of Heritage Hotel attended the celebration, overall commented it was a night to remember.
The welcome address by the Hotel Manager, Ms Veronica Thadeus was very inspiring as she has emphasized Aim High For Better Success towards her hotel staffs for the year to come. She quoted saying, “We aim high to achieve more and be more successful. With the huge support from the owners and directors, I believe with commitment and loyalty, we the Heritage Hotel Team CAN!” During the speech by Mr David Sie, Managing Director of the DS Group, has strengthen the spirit of the staffs as Mr Sie quoted saying, “it is nothing easy, however with your resolute determination and perseverance, we have the fullest confidence in you to conquer any mountain of obstruction.”. Mr Sie urges the staffs to be a working partner and not a sleeping passenger.
Mdm Sophia Sie, the Executive Director, overseeing the hotel and tourism sector, also indicated the year 2007 has been a real blessing with continuous growth and achievement which makes all the timeless efforts and determination worthwhile. On top of adopting a ‘Sure can do’ attitude when carrying out their duties; this year she add on to the motto which is ‘Sure can do your best’ attitude. The staffs were put to a challenge when Mdm Sophia quoted saying “ let me challenge each of our staff and team members to unite their individual efforts to pursue excellence in customer service and strive for a new height of success for the year of 2008”.
With the Chinese New Year around the corner, another surprise came for the staffs and guests when a special appearance from Mr Choi San Yeh cheered up the night. The Hotel had the privilege of having their Operations Manager, Mr Jeffrey Yee who has been very supportive in dressing up as their very own Choi San Yeh, welcoming the year of rat traditionally believed to bring in great harvest, good fortune and doors of opportunity for many.
There were several awards and prizes presented during the celebration which includes award for Best Dance Performance, with their seductive movements, gave the Front Office and Sales & Reservation Department victory. While Sally Mohamad of Sales & Reservation Department had brought bright eyes to the audiences and judges and crowned her as Ms Elegant Heritage and Ridzuan Kalap of Housekeeping Department, Mr Elegant Heritage. Not forgetting the wild part of the programme, Ms Elegant (Drag Queen) 2008 which was catchy and breathe taking that went to Pita Rajah of Housekeeping Department.
The climax award of the night, are the 2007 awards. Outstanding Attendance Award was awarded to Sima Maming of Housekeeping Department, Employee with Best Devotion was awarded to Randolph @ Randy of Front Office Department, Employee with Best Commitment – Pita Rajah of Housekeeping Department; Employee with Best Reliability – Asbudi Jamaluddin of Housekeeping Department and Best Department Award 2007, for 3 years consecutively, went to the Housekeeping Department for their teamwork and a job well done. As for the grand lucky draws, guests had the chance for a 2D/1N stay at Heritage Hotel and also a 2D/1N package trip to Mataking Island. A VISIT FROM DONNAVVENTURA, ITALY
With the full support from the Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia and Tourism Malaysia for the Italian TV program, Heritage Hotel had an opportunity to welcome 5 Italian ladies involve highly acclaimed Italian travel reality television series Donnavventura recently. They are Chiara Babilani, Michela Guizzon, Chiara Baselice, Stefania Donati and Elisa Grazzini. The ground handler Mr. Luca Viola of Insight Borneo Incentives & Tours Sdn Bhd had the chance to escort the group with their adventures around Sabah.
The producer of Donnavventura (woman in adventure) Maurizio Rossi was very pleased with the unexpected warm welcome they received from the staffs at Heritage Hotel. With the different traditional costumes and smiles from the staffs’ faces, made the long journey from Mataking Island to Tawau very worth it.
Rossi, 54, and the crew members we making a pit-stop at the hotel as part of their on-going 3-month expedition to 8 South-East Asian nations. The crew had so far traveled to Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar. This was their second stop in Malaysia as they started out in Kuala Lumpur on July 19. “We look forward to completing the Asian leg by mid-October before returning to Kuala Lumpur,” he said before departing for Keningau the next day.
The team’s journey to South-East Asian nations, featuring 12 episodes of exciting and exhilarating adventures, would be aired in Italy towards the end of this year or early next year.
Donnavventura, in its 19th year of production, features 6 young and charismatic Italian ladies who were chosen from some 40,000 applicants, to act as aspiring journalists and share their travel experiences with viewers.

A COURSE ON ‘ASAS KEBOMBAAN’ FOR HERITAGE HOTEL STAFF
THE FIRST HOTEL in TAWAU! In August 2007, selected hotel staffs attended the 4-days course of ‘Asas Kembombaan’ held at Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat, Zon Tawau. This made Heritage Hotel - the first hotel to have a qualified rescue team in Tawau.
The course was led by Ambrose @ Rosli Tuzan and Awang Jamry Lamsin which included talks on Fire Chemistry, Fire Deterrent, Hose Fitting/ Carry/ Litter and Fire Drill. Other practical course included movement around smoky areas and putting out fire using fire extinguisher and fire hose.
All the staff passed with flying colours and each of them succeeded in obtaining a certificate of ‘Kursus Asas Kembombaan’ respectively.

HERITAGE HOTEL ANNUAL STAFF PARTY – 13th January 2007
It was another celebration and night to remember for the staffs and management of Heritage Hotel when they recently had their Annual Staff Dinner Celebration on 13th January 2007. With the remarkable decorations and bringing the theme ‘Colours of Rangoli – Bollywood Nite’ everyone was wearing colorful Indian costumes. There we more that 130 guests who includes the main supporters as well as top management of Heritage Hotel attended the celebration, overall commented it was a success.
The welcome address by the Hotel Manager, Ms Veronica Thadeus was very inspiring as she has emphasized STRETCH TO REACH OUR GOAL towards her hotel staffs and management for the year to come. She quoted saying, “Stretch and achieve not only being as ONE TEAM but to achieve what you have aimed for” During the speech by Mr David Sie, Managing Director of the DS Group, has strengthen the spirit of the staffs as Mr Sie quoted saying, “As year 2007 is defined as the Visit Malaysia Year, we have a great responsibility to ensure that the governments aspiration is nothing but successful”. Mr Sie urges the staffs to prepare themselves for this grand occasion and believes that the staffs can do better as there are always rooms for further improvement.
A special message was also conveyed from the top management where the management requested for each and individual staff to put commitment & loyalty in their work, treat the hotel business as their own and adopt ‘sure can do!’ attitude when dealing with customer complaints, operation problems or even instructions given as the management will definitely award the valued staff accordingly. Adding to this, the management wants the staff to remember this phrase ‘if you never try, you’ll never know and if you never learn, you’ll never do’

While Frasisca Azureen of Front Office had brought bright eyes to the audiences and judges and crowned her as Ms Bollywood Nite and Khamis Lea of Housekeeping Department, Mr Bollywood Nite. Not forgetting the most interesting part of the programme, Ms Traditional (Drag Queen) 2007 which was absolutely eye catching and breathe taking that went to Atmajaya of Front Office Department.
The climax award of the night, Best Staff Award 2006 was awarded to Biby Sharmila Bte Nanang, Supervisor of Housekeeping Department for her work commitment and Best Department Award 2006, again, went to the Housekeeping Department for 2 consecutive years for their job well done. As for the grand lucky draws, guests had the chance for a 2D/1N stay at Heritage Hotel Suite Room and also a 2D/1N package trip to Mataking Island.

Launching of Heritage Hotel’s website

The Heritage Hotel, the choice for the discerning business travelers to Tawau, recently celebrated their Grand Opening on the 10th June 2006. The Hotel was officially opened by the honorable Guest of Honor, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture & Environment of Sabah, Y.B Tan Sri Datuk Chong Kah Kiat.
Nearly two hundred guests, including YB Shim Paw Fatt (Ahli Parliament Tawau), YB Samson Chin (ADUN Sri Tanjung) YB Kol Datuk (Dr) Liew Yun Fah (ADUN Merotai) Y. Bgh Datuk Monica Chia (Permanent Secretary to YB Tan Sri) and Y Bhg Hj Salsidu Haji Ibrahim (Presiden Majlis Perbandaran Tawau) witnessed the event. The Grand Opening was pronounced a major success by all those in attendance.
As everyone is wondering why the name ‘Heritage’ is chosen, Mr David Sie, Managing Director of the DS Group during his speech explained, the name ‘Heritage’ as the name of the hotel is chose because it’s the wishes of the owners that the hotel complete with its pleasant image, hospitality and the spirit of unselfishness to serve, can be preserved and handed down to generations to come. He also added, he is proud to say that Heritage Hotel is the landmark of Tawau. With the cheap room rates but very good facilities, good and friendly service and cleanliness, our rooms are hotly demanded and so much so that it is the talk of the town, one needs to book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
Mr Sie added, “not only our business objectives to do hotel business, we are committed to ensure that we provide our youths not just a place of employment but a training ground for them to embark onto better future. Heritage Hotel has given healthy bargaining and competition edge to offer choice to the customers to select a better hotel at affordable rate. “It is our small contribution to promote tourism industry which is the aspiration of the government” Mr Sie added.

Appreciation night mainly for the staffs of Heritage Hotel was held for the VERY 1st time. What made the night more memorable was the attendance of great supporters and regular guests of Heritage Hotel. The event was officiated by Mr David Sie, Managing Director of the DS Group together with Sophia Sie, Executive Director for the Tourism Division of the Group and the Hotel Manager, Ms Veronica Thadeus. During the celebration, several awards were announced including Best Department (Housekeeping Department), Best Staff (Ahmad Bin Salim) and Mr/Ms Heritage just to name a few. The invitees also had the chance to participate in the Lucky Draw session where the grand prize was a trip to Mataking Island and a stay at Heritage Hotel.
